This exhibition highlights Pittsburgh’s native trees in intricate detail, highlighting the leaves, flowers, fruit and other plant parts that flourish throughout the year yet largely go unnoticed. The original artworks were produced through Phipps’ annual "Flora Project" as part of their Botanical Art and Illustration program in collaboration with the Allegheny Highlands Botanical Art Society. The theme of the 2015 project was Native Trees of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Artist Ann Rosenthal, who participated in the project, brings this group of portraits together to foster an appreciation of Pittsburgh’s trees, which cover 42% of the city and remove over 500 tons of air pollution annually.
